Ruts Along the Way

Standard

Are you currently sidelined or frustrated with where you are right now?

The truth is that these times are all part of the journey. The key to achieving goals is pushing through all the dips, twists and an unexpected detours along the way. Really that’s where we learn what we most need know.

So how can we push through?

We can find a source of inspiration that will fan the fire (the upcoming NFR is a great source of that for barrel racers!) and do what you can right NOW with what you currently HAVE. Keep the momentum moving forward toward your goal and celebrate the small achievements. It can be easy to leot the imperfect conditions stall us out completely but I think if we wait for the stars to align perfectly we won’t get too far. We have all seen people in seemingly impossible situations achieve amazing things because they simply refused to give up!

I hope if you find yourself relating to this that you take a step forward and do one small act to get you closer to where you want to be today!

A Young Widow and a Horse

Standard

After I bought Gigi I boarded her a local facility outside of town. I was there almost every single day. It was the highlight of my days and it just didn’t feel complete until I at least checked on her. I was so grateful, and still amazed, that I finally owned a horse again after so many years.

Spending time with Gigi was like a form of meditation. No words were spoke and we were always in the present moment. No matter how much was happening or how I was feeling before I got to the barn, it would all fall away when I got to her. Even if I was having a tough emotional day, it was quickly overcome by the peace and focus that Gigi’s presence brought.

Eventually I would nickname her Super Gigi, not just because of barrel racing with her but because of the incredible impact she had on my life. She now even has her very own hashtag, #SuperGigi.

A lot of time together was spent riding, but the time spent together during her massages and PEMF blanket treatments was also a wonderful time of bonding and healing.

While I was moving forward with my life, I was still healing after the loss of my husband, Tyler. More than anything Gigi brought my focus to the present. She drowned out the pain in the past and worry of the future. She helped bring my focus to the blessings in the moment.

After being around horses for a while the magic can wear off and complacency can take it’s place. Some people don’t stop to think that this 1,000+ lb animal has the power to easily hurt you and that it is a pretty amazing thing that they allow us to do so much with them.

So many people have benefitted from the power of the acceptance and love felt by a horses willingness to trust and follow them. It is a powerful experience especially to people that have never interacted with horses.

Beyond those magical experiences, the energy of a horse is healing in itself. Just to sit quietly in their presence can drown out the world and break through even the most calloused of hearts.

It has now been over 2 years since I found Gigi and she has been a beautiful blessing to me. She continues to help me grow, to conquer fears, to take my own unique path and remind me to never give up. Every day I walk out to the barn and her whinny I am so grateful.

Horses are truly heart healers and Super Gigi has helped heal mine.

Veterans Day 2014

Standard

Happy Veterans Day! Is that the correct greeting? I am not sure. Either way, today is Veterans Day, a special day meant to honor our past and present Veterans. I can’t not thank my fellow Veterans enough for their service and sacrifices. As well as the families that supported them through their service.

Yesterday was the Marine Corps birthday, which also is Tyler and I’s wedding anniversary. It would have been 7 years. I did pretty well with it this year. It is getting easier to smile at memories, rather than cry. I have so many blessings in my life today to be grateful for that I try to focus on.

Time is the most precious and valuable things we can possess. To sacrifice time with family and friends to serve is something see as extremely important to recognize. After losing someone, every last second with them is precious. Every lost  moment with them is painful. Veterans often miss holidays, anniversaries, the birth of their children, celebrations, weddings, funerals, and the many “firsts” with their children. Not to mention that many put their lives directly at risk to serve. The risk never having any of the moments ever again, so that those they love may live their lives fully and free. It is no small matter and I take it extremely personally and to heart. I hope that you take every opportunity to say thank you to a Veteran today or support them in some way.

I have been really busy, but in a good way. Today an interview I did with Alyssa Barnes, of the Earn Your Spurs podcast for Veterans Day, went live. You can listen here:

You can also find the interview on the Earn Your Spurs Facebook page. Give them a like and check out the other awesome interviews Alyssa has done. I really appreciate her reaching out, support Veterans, and helping share our story with the rodeo world. Thank you Alyssa!

There are some really great things coming up here quickly that I will be sharing on Facebook as well, so get on over and visit my page at: www.facebook.com/chelseystimon

I am also on Instagram and Twitter so find me there!

I hope everyone has a wonderful day celebrating our brave men and women in uniform,

Veterans Day Fundraiser for the Navy SEALs Fund!

Standard

Usually for Veterans Day I do some #RAOKs (Random Acts of Kindness) in Tyler’s honor for Veterans. This year I am hosting a fundraiser for the Navy SEALs Fund, an awesome non-profit taking care of the community, even after they leave active duty.

I noticed that I really needed a red shirt for #REDFriday. Since I am a redhead, I have minimal red in my wardrobe, basically I have one red shirt. So I was lead to designing one and then ended up turning it into a fundraiser. They turned out pretty awesome, if I do say so myself! The front says “Never Forget” and “SO1 SEAL Tyler Stimson” and the back says “Never Give Up”!

As of today we have raised over $200! I am really hoping to hit $1000 after more shirts and the auction items sell.

I am excited and humbled to say that a fellow female Veteran, Lindsey Figgins, contacted me to donate one of her custom wood burning plaques to be auctioned off! Check out her page here: https://www.facebook.com/customgiftsbylinz

October 27th will be the day of the auction, and it is the last day the t-shirts will be available too! I have now added 5 more auction items, including Tyler’s Never Forget wristbands, Flag magnets, the very last of the Tyler decals and a Navy SEAL Fund stickers. All proceeds go to the Navy SEALs Fund.

Here is the event link on FB where you can bid on Auction Items: https://www.facebook.com/events/335737186587370/337234566437632/navySEALs fundScreen shot 2014-10-11 at 12.55.56 PMScreen shot 2014-10-12 at 11.04.41 AMSEALsticker

My First Radio Interview!

Standard

I was selected by Alexis Bloomer to be on her show Off the Record on Sirius XM’s Rural Channel 80.  It was my first time doing an official interview and I was really excited/nervous! It turned out great when I listened today! Alexis was great and extremely supportive. I was happy to share Tyler’s memory, our story, and what I am trying to accomplish with my barrel racing.

We recorded it while at a barrel race this morning so you get to look at the dash of my truck and hear horses whinnying in the background. I think it is fitting. 🙂

On another note, Gigi and I are having a great weekend of barrel racing! She is making a strong comeback and I am so grateful for her!

Enjoy!

Don’t You Dare Give Up

Standard

Are you struggling today?

Does a dream seem impossible all of a sudden?

Are you facing unwanted changes in your life?

Are you facing another day as you carry the weight of your grief?

I am here to tell you to hang in there! If been in some tough situations myself.

I’ve thought of giving up, settling for less, or sometimes that I wasn’t good enough. If I get really frustrated I have learned to sleep on it and usually the next morning I will have a better mindset. I try to listen to motivating music, read about the great things people are doing to help one another and remember that God is with us even when we feel alone. I look at the blessings I have in this very moment and find contentment, no matter how small, sometimes it is just a good cup of coffee or a trail ride with Gigi.

Will this stuff fix everything?

Nope!

But it helps me to keep going and sometimes that is all we need to do.

Keep going.

I’ve found that if I hang in there and keep making progress, no matter how small, good things are going to happen. So don’t you DARE give up! It’s not easy to make your big dream come true, it’s not easy to endure consequences from a mistake and I know it is not easy to survive the loss of someone you love dearly. But you CAN do it! And remember to share your struggles and your resulting victories!

Seriously. Comment below!

You never know who needs to hear your story today or the healing you might experience.

My Mission

Standard

For those of you who are new to my FB page and blog, I want to tell you a little more about my mission here. I am a Navy Veteran and Gold Star Wife. I lost my husband, Tyler, in 2010. It has been a long journey to get to where I am today and I couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of my military family.

Currently, I am living out one of my dreams working with horses and competing in barrel racing. An endeavor that has also brought much healing. My heart is still very much with my military community and I want to do more with the amazing opportunity I have to pay it forward. There are so many great non-profits out there I don’t want to start another one. I decided instead to help those that already exist accomplish their mission.

I am striving to be an ambassador for our Veterans and Gold Star Wives in the rodeo and horse community. I travel to races and rodeos I want to share and support the great organizations and Patriots that support these special groups of Americans. I am adding patches of those organizations and memorials to my race shirts. I hope to expand that to stickers/banners on my trailer as well. My goal is to start a dialog and share the many ways to support our Veterans, Wounded Warriors, and Gold Star Families. Of course, honoring the memories of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice is extremely important to me as well.

My Blog and Facebook page is intended to serve as a place to share my journey as a Veteran, Gold Star Wife, and Barrel Racer. I hope that my story will inspire others facing life changing difficulties to #NeverGiveUp and follow their calling.

Please help me with my mission! Follow me here and SHAREthis page http://www.facebook.com/chelseystimson .

If you are an organization or business that supports our Veterans or Gold Star families that would like to work together please contact me on Facebook! http://www.facebook.com/chelseystimson

Many thanks and God Bless!

And #NeverGiveUp!
